Wild scenes unfolded in Israel this evening, after fans were permitted to return for the meeting between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Beitar Jerusalem.

0-0 stalemate

The Israeli Premier League playoff clash took place a short time ago.

Hapoel acted as hosts, welcoming Beitar to Bloomfield Stadium for a highly anticipated matchup.

The two clubs have long stood as rivals, due to their opposing political views.

In turn, it came as little surprise when a tense 90 minutes proceeded to unfold.

Upon the full-time whistle sounding in Tev Aviv, though, the sides could not be separated, en route to a 0-0 draw.

Beitar stars hauled off

As outlined above, however, it was not the action on the pitch itself which took centre stage in central Israel on Saturday night.

Instead, it was ongoings in the Bloomfield stands, specifically in the Hapoel ultras end.

This came with supporters having been allowed to return in force for the first time, on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The hosts’ fanbase unsurprisingly took full advantage of the opportunity, flooding to the stadium, boasting banners, flares and more.

Unfortunately, however, at one point in proceedings, the home fans took things a step too far.

As per Ben Goldfriend of N12News, the referee overseeing the clash was forced to call a halt to proceedings, guiding Beitar’s players off the pitch, after the visitors were pelted with objects from the crowd:
