Arsenal open to selling Eddie Nketiah & West Brom loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Arsenal’s clear-out

Arsenal are currently in the process of transforming their squad under Mikel Arteta.

Under Arteta’s rein a number of top talents, such as Thomas Partey and Gabriel, have been brought in as the north Londoners look to return to their former glory.

Perhaps more importantly though, Arsenal have been undergoing a much-needed clear-out during Arteta’s time at the club.

Arsenal have, for some time, had a number of underperforming stars on their books on high wages they should not be paying without Champions League football.

This has led to players such as Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis leaving the club before their contracts expired.

The clear out, though, is still far from over, with Arsenal fans still no doubt eager to see some of their current players moved on to allow the squad to be further freshened up.

Arsenal open to selling English duo

Now, a report from the Sun on Sunday has shed some light on some more of the players Arsenal are perhaps hoping to move on as part of their rebuild under Arteta.

Said players are Eddie Nketiah and Ainsley Maitland-Niels, with the Sun writing that ‘Arsenal open to selling Eddie Nketiah and Ainsley Maitland-Niles but will demand £20m transfer fees for academy stars’.

The latter is currently on loan at West Brom were he has shown patches of promise. But it is hard to see AMN being handed regular football when he returns to the Emirates, especially at left-back where he has already showcased he is not overly comfortable in that position.

Nketiah, meanwhile, has scored just twice in the league this season and will have just one year left to run on his current contract in the summer.
