7 players to leave Arsenal, while Gunners are still paying Ozil millions

Arsenal still paying 90%+ Ozil wages

It was surprising to see Mesut Ozil leave Arsenal in January after several statements from the player and his agent claiming that they wanted to see out the length of his contract which was set to expire at the end of the season.

However the former German international did leave the club for Turkish side Fenerbahce.

It was said that Arsenal would be saving a considerable amount of money allowing the player, whose wages amounted to approximately £350,000 per week, to leave the club early.

However The Athletic reports that Arsenal are actually paying upwards of 90% of his wages despite his permanent absence.

Whilst 10% of a huge weekly wage does allow some savings, the difference between what was thought and what turns out to be the case is significant.

Although, Gunners fans will have enjoyed their former player’s tweet yesterday evening poking fun at Spurs after their League Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

7 players set for Gunners exit

With Arsenal looking like they will finish one of, if not, their worst Premier League seasons to date, it is unsurprising to know that Mikel Arteta is looking to overhaul the squad in the summer.

In the fan forum last week owner Stan Kroenke’s son Josh confirmed KSE have ‘big plans’ to invest in the club.

However, with that a persistent concern as to its legitimacy, player sales will also be necessary to raise additional support to bring in talent.

As opposed to last summer, Arsenal have plenty of surplus telling available to bring in financial support and many are expected to leave.

Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have spent their season on loan with Atletico Madrid and Hertha Berlin respectively. Their futures are said to be away from the club and Arsenal are open to offers.

Hector Bellerin’s future is uncertain with rumours of an agreement with Arteta this would be his last season.

Newcastle are keen on a permanent deal for on loan Joe Willock with a fee in the region of £20 million being discussed.

Young winger Reiss Nelson has failed to earn regular opportunities this season and could seek for greater chances elsewhere.

David Luiz’s deal end this summer and no talks regarding a renewal have begun thus far.

Sead Kolasinac’s loan to Schalke is unlikely to become permanent after their relegation and with just a single year left on his deal, the club will look to cash in where possible.
